The Singing Queen of Soap Operas
Actress, singer, dancer, model, host, author of ideas original and lyrics, composer, Natalia Marisa Oreiro Iglesias Poggio Bourié was born on the 19th of May 1977, Uruguay. She started studying theatre at the age of eight, and today at 28 years old her life passes between cameras, stages, recording studios, presentations of recording productions, and she is already a phenomenon.
Natalia always knew that her calling would be interpretation, and started taking her first theater classes at the age of 8. When she became 12 she was called to participate in advertisements in her country.
First steps
She went to a casting call for child actors and began a career in the world of advertisements. Between the ages of 12 and 16, she recorded over 30 advertisements for products like Coca- Cola, Pepsi and Johnson & Johnson.
In consequence, whenever she found out there would be castings in Buenos Aires TV stations, she would go there to see if something came up. Although Natalia was working steadily, most of her earnings went towards the frequent casting trips she made to Buenos Aires from Montevideo. So, at 17 she decided to move to Argentina full-time. The opportunity arrived when she was selected for a little play in the soap opera "Inconquistable corazon", where she met her boyfriend for six years: Pablo Echarri.
She had such a desire to be recognized as an actress, that she rejected some really tempting proposals - among them, to be a host in MTV- because it didn’ assure she would fulfill here objectives. Since that moment everything happened so fast. She participated in "Dulce Ana" and her great recognition came with a role in "Rich and Famous". The soap opera was so successful that was broadcasted to over 59 countries, including South America, Europe, and some Asian countries. It lasted more than two years, and the producers were so confident in it’s success that they started another series of it.
The Wild Angel’s Triumph
Next, she participated in the blockbuster -"Argentine in New-York " (1998), in which she played as an ambitious teenager who wants to reach musical stardom.
Such an ironic thing, because after the movie Natalia lauched her first record as a singer called "Natalia Oreiro" and interpreted the song "Cambio dolor" that opened the television play "Wild Angel" in 1998 which was the rating leader of afternoon television.
Her songs ("Me muero de amor", between others) are heard all over the world. On the 27th January of 2000, she received the "Celebrity of the year" prize in the chain by cable E! Entertainment Television.
She was also nominated for a "Martín Fierro Award" in two consecutive years (in 1999 and 2000) as best dramatic actress in a leading role for her part as Milagros `Mili’ a boyish and sensual orphan in "Wild Angel". This series was screened in more than 80 countries over the world in which you can find: United States of America, Russia, Ukraine, Greece, Slovenia, Cyprus, Lithuania, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and all Latin America.
In her musical career, she sang together with Raffaella Carrà; in Italy, was part of "Gala de la Hispanidad", a classical Spanish show in Punta del Este. She was also in "Festival de la Calle 8" in Miami and in "Gala de Murcia" in Spain. After making public her decision to dedicate her career to singing in 2000, she travelled to Los Angeles to put her voice to a second record titled "Tu Veneno" (Your Poison) this is a pop-rock style with an andaluz touch.
Natalia received various offers to film in Spain, Italy and United States of America. In 2000 and 2001 she did an extensive tour of recitals including countries like Romania, Philippines, Hungary, Greece, Poland, Czech Republic, Israel, Slovakia, Slovenia, Russia, Belarus, between others. In February 2001 she was elected as the Queen of the Viña del Mar Festival 2000, conquering all the Chilean public by singing and beauty. In February 2002 she is named the godmother to the Uruguayan national football team and was invited to accompany them to the world cup Korea-Japan. In March 2002 she continued her tour in Russia and Belarus and started to record her new album titled "Turmalina", which came on sale in June 2002.
Private happiness
Natalia has got a very popular husband (especially in Latin America) - Ricardo Mollo, the leader of Argentinan rock band "Divididos". Mollo Natalia Oreiro and Ricardo Mollo married in secret in Brazil in 2000. The news leaked out after a party that the couple made for his friends.
Would not have been a formal wedding, with Church and dress of girlfriend, clear. The wedding was an intimate ritual and was carried out December 31 in some place of Brazil, and the rings were tatuados in the skin of the bride and groom. "We are very happy" they confirmed later, Oreiro and Mollo showed their fingers with the tatuaje of the symbolic ring of married.
Natalia’s choice shocked everybody - the star of the pop adolescent, the queen of the novel that worship even in Russia, the popular singer of 24 years, with the rocker guitarist of 44, the soul of Divididos - the most prestigious band - the composer and producer. Few they could believe it.
But the relation was not the fleeting thing that all thought would be. The visits of Mollo to the mansion of the Natalie were more frequent , they often came to some public presentations spoke already of a relation, what is said, serious. From that time he began producing and she began doing choruses for "Divided", dreaming never continuing work in soap operas…
